As we approach Memorial Day, we take a moment to reflect, honor, and remember the bravery and steadfast dedication of those who have served our country. It is a time to appreciate the sacrifices made to secure our freedoms. Here, that spirit of unwavering dependability is something we value deeply. For the past 19 years, Coastal Reliability Solutions has built its reputation on providing equipment and service that you can trust when it matters most.

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday, we’re seeing a lot of patriotic RED on our shop floor lately—specifically, our lineup of rugged, heavy-duty Grindex pumps! Grindex has engineered these units to perform in the harshest industrial, mining, and construction environments, ensuring that when you deploy them, they stay on the job.
Pumping Smart in a Drought: Handling Thicker Slurries
Grindex is globally recognized for its elite dewatering, slurry, and sludge capabilities. However, we know that our region is currently experiencing severe drought conditions. Right now, you probably aren't fighting flooded trenches, overflowing retention ponds, or excess storm runoff.
But here is the reality: in dry times, efficient fluid management actually becomes more
critical and demanding on your equipment.

When water is scarce, the industrial fluids, slurries, and sludges you need to move become much more concentrated. Less dilution means a higher percentage of solids, higher specific gravity, and more abrasive wear on your impellers and volutes. You cannot afford leaks, operational downtime, or equipment failure when moving these concentrated process fluids. Whether you are maintaining vital phosphate operations or keeping your plant running smoothly during a dry spell, you need a pump built for heavy solids. You need a solution that maximizes every drop of fluid and every kilowatt of energy.

The Engineering Behind the Choice: Sizing Your Pump
Having a reliable pump is only half the battle; having the right pump is what guarantees operational success. Miscalculating your system curves or underestimating your fluid properties will drastically shorten the life of any pump.
We highly recommend the sizing methodology outlined in Pages 67–71 of the Grindex Dewatering Handbook. It is a fantastic resource for maintenance and engineering teams.
To ensure maximum efficiency and lifespan for your application, Grindex outlines these critical steps when selecting your unit:
Determine the Required Capacity (Flow): How much fluid do you need to move, and how fast? This establishes the baseline volume your operation demands.
Calculate the Total Head: You must consider the static discharge head (the true vertical distance the fluid must be lifted) plus the friction losses created by the length, diameter, and material of your hoses and pipes.
Analyze the Fluid Media: Are you pumping clean water, highly abrasive mining slurries, or corrosive liquids? Grindex offers specialized polyurethane linings, stainless steel components, and Hard-Iron™ impellers depending on the pH and solid content of your media.
Evaluate Your Power Supply: Ensure your site's voltage and frequency perfectly match the pump's requirements. Fortunately, Grindex pumps come equipped with SMART motor protection, which safeguards against phase failure, voltage drops, and overheating.
Consider the Operating Environment: Will the pump run dry occasionally as sumps empty out? Traditional submersible pumps will burn out their seals if run dry. Grindex pumps feature a patented air valve that automatically opens to cool the motor with ambient air when water levels drop, allowing them to run dry without damage!
